Great to see MBK Early Years supporting such a diverse range of early years training & support.National Children’s Gardening Week is a brilliant reminder that some of the richest learning in early years doesn’t happen at a table, it happens with muddy hands and curious minds 🌱
For leaders, this week is a great opportunity to reflect on how outdoor experiences are supporting development across your setting.
Gardening naturally strengthens:
🌱 communication and language through shared discovery
🌱 personal, social and emotional development through responsibility and care
🌱 physical development through digging, pouring and planting
🌱 understanding the world through real, seasonal change
Just as importantly, it helps children slow down, notice, and connect with their environment, something many of them need more than ever.
Even small changes can make a big difference. A few pots, a planting tray, or a simple watering routine can become powerful learning opportunities when teams feel confident using them intentionally.
It might also be a good moment this week to ask:
Are we making the most of what our outdoor spaces can offer children every day, not just occasionally?
Supporting staff to see gardening as learning, not just an activity, is where leadership makes the biggest impact.
